Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “ıvır zıvır sindirilebilirler”) tanılamamlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine bentlanmasıyla oluşan kısaca polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino asit kalıntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” veya peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (veya çok nüshada polipeptit ast birimi barındırır). Gerçek üstelik peptitlerin kısaca, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi esnasında her amino asit, diğer amino asite sürekli, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle bentlanır. Polipeptid binasına sulplan amino asitlerin her biri binaya peptid bentlarıyla bentlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir ab çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Ortalama bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Aşina en uzun polipeptit, takribî 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda mevcut “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine sulplan amino asitlere kalıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki kalıntı, bağ yapmamış, sere serpe amino grubu barındırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin diğer ucundaki sere serpe α-karboksil grubu olan kalıntıya C ucu adı verilir.
